Study on the Effects of Acupuncture , moxibustion and Laser Beam Acupuncture upon the Intravascular Coagulation induced by Endotoxin in Rat


Abstract
In order to study the effect of acupuncture, moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture on the intra-vascular coagulation, endotoxin was intravascularly administered to the vein in the tail of the rat and stimulation was applied respectively by the certain numbers of session and duration at the loci of Haeng-gan (Liv2), Sam-eum-gyo (Sp6), Sa-gwan (the loci of combination with the locus of LI4 and Liv3) and Blank locus (the locus on the mid point of the ankle joint on the posterior aspect). Four hours after the acupuncture, moxibustion. and laser beam acupuncture, blood was taken from the heart and the numbers of platelets, fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) in the serum of rat, concentration of fibrinogen, prothrombin time were measured.
The following results have been obtained:
1) Upon the result of the numbers of platelets, acupuncture to Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan showed valuable increase; moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture to Haeng-gan, Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan respectively represented effective increases.
The most effective increase was shown in the moxibustion by 5 times and laser beam acupuncture by 60 seconds to the locus Sam-eum-gyo.
2) Acupuncture, moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture to Haeng-gan, Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan respectively revealed effective decreases in the concentration of fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products.
The most effective result was in the group of moxibustion by 5 times to the locus Sam-eum-gyo.
3) On the content of fibrinogen, acupuncture to Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan respectively revealed remarkable increases, and moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture to Haeng-gan, Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan increased significantly.
The locus Sam-eum-gyo treated by moxibustion with 3 and 5 times respectively revealed the most valuable result.
4) To the effect on the prothrombin time, acupuncture, moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture showed respectively reduced the prothrombin time effectively at the loci Sam-eum-gyo, Haeng-gan and Sa-gwan.
Moxibustion by 5 times and laser beam acupuncture by 60 seconds indicated the most valuable changes.
5) Blank locus did not show any effect at all on the numbers of platelets, fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products, content of fibrinogen and prothrombin time.
6) By the acupuncture locus, Sam-eum-gyo, Sa-gwan and Haeng-gan in that order and by the therapeutic method, moxibustion, laser beam acupuncture and acupuncture in that order revealed the better results on the intravascular coagulation.
And increasing density of stimulation was shown the better changes on the intravascular coagulation.
According to the above results, it is concluded that the acupuncture, moxibustion and laser beam acupuncture at the loci of Haeng-gan, Sam-eum-gyo and Sa-gwan showed increase of the numbers of platelets, and concentration of the fibrinogen, and revealed decrease of FDP and prothrombin time; and it seems to be applicable to the diseases due to thrombosis.
